Today, since the weather was nice. I participated in my monthly Ocd wheel cleaning, now that the body shop has returned my Child into my possession. I used three products today.
I used the spare tire for the review, because A. I was too lazy to remove the other 4, and B. It was nasty as shit.
The Products:
1. Simonz Brake Dust Buster
2. Black Magic "Bleche-Blak"
3. Black Magic "Tire Wet" (Tire Shine)
So, First I sprayed the "Brake Dust" stuff on. (It smells like cupcakes and bananas.)
I then washed it off, and it looked a LITTLE bit better. So then I got my rag and my Room-mates toothbrush and started cleaning.
Then I flipped it over, and cleaned the backside.
Just for the record, the "Tire Shine" smells like Grape shampoo.
Pirelli P-Zero. I tried the "Tire Cleaner" but it smells like Chemicals and Acid, and it's about as Toxic as swallowing Gasoline.
There. I finished.
1. Brake Dust Buster- It loosened the dust slightly. It merely "Assisted" in cleaning the brake dust off, but that's what I expected
Recommended- Kinda Sorta (You are better off with a toothbrush)
2. Tire Shine- It looked like complete shit when I was done.
Recommended- Probably not
3. Tire Cleaner- Don't use it in the wind, don't get it in your eyes, don't get it on your skin. I've used it in the past, but it was Windy today.
Reccomended- Hell no.

It's best to use gel-like consistency product for tires. They remain on the tires longer and less likely to fling on to body panel once you start driving. Have you tried those color changing wheel cleaner? Strong chemical smell but works like wonder.

Yeah, The type that use applicator Pads.
I haven't tried color changing cleaners. I am going to try out Brake Dust Pro. It's a little bit on the pricey side though.

After a brutal winter full of salt and slush, my rims look like shit. I really need to clean them. What products do you usually use?

I usually use a Wire brush, and toothbrush. I use the Simon-z Brake dust cleaner, the tire cleaner I mentioned earlier for the tires. I also use Black Magic wheel cleaner for salt, and grime.

Acetone works wonders on brake dust and it's safe for most clearcoats.

I'm one step ahead of you. I've already tried it. Dimethyl works slightly better than Acetone I do have to say.

a good review :D so, a little bit of elbow grease and a non-wheel/tyre specific degreaser and you woulda had the same results?

Yeah, I've heard about using commercial cleaners to remove brake dust, but I wasn't willing to risk screwing the finish up before I switch them out.
They still are impossible to clean. Too many spokes, arrghhhhhhhh
Thanks!
